Diffusion of broadband is contingent upon demand in the last mile.  Regulators should take active initiative to abate the threats to privacy and data protection. There should be legal and regulatory measures to address these issues. With vast amount of personal data accumulating daily in cyberspace, use, protection, retention and disposal of wide range of personal information is becoming ever more challenging. These issues also include data processing and storage capabilities and online profiling, aggregation methods etc. The regulatory bodies should be careful to ensure privacy of the users, transparency in data collection, awareness about privacy, international policy cooperation.
